Never go moist with Eureka EDC-51 Dry Cabinet!

It is a great honour to try out  Eureka EDC-51 Dry Cabinet. To many fans out there, what is the fuss of having a dry cabinet for your cameras? I can easily store my camera and lens on inside my cupboard with Thirsty Hippo to absorb moisture or rather, leaving the lenses and camera anywhere I want.

But what happens if you leave that way too long?

This can happen to your lens.

With humidity in Singapore soaring up to 90%, it can be really ideal for fungus to grow on your lens. Especially when your lens are not weather sealed (those expensive ones aren't weather sealed), rain water can enter easily and get mixed with the dust. The most ideal humidity range is 40% to 50%, but you will not get it in Singapore's climate.

Lens fungus contamination is caused by a combination of moisture and dust (containing fungus spores) that can get inside your lens’s interior elements. Some dust gets inside every lens, especially if it’s a lens that isn’t fully “weather sealed” like the very expensive professional models. The dust specks are usually not a problem, by themselves. However, add a little moisture, and very bad things can happen!

Therefore dry cabinets are really important for all lens and almost all electric devices here in Singapore. I mean, you would rather invest in a $200+ dry cabinet instead of losing your lens especially, 24 - 70mm F2.8 at almost $3k right?

My Experience with Eureka EDC-51 Dry Cabinet

The first thing when I unboxed the cabinet, I was really impressed with the design. The silver rims make it really attractive.

Spacious design.

My previous dry cabinet, yes previous since now I've gotten the Eureka Dry Cabinet has a battery operated hygrometer. It wasn't reliable as I thought to be because I needed to replace the battery almost every 12 months. But for Eureka Dry Cabinet, the hydrometer is analogue therefore I do not need to worry about replacing batteries. Not only that, the hydrometer readings are huge enough to read comfortably. But ultimately, the best feature about this hydrometer is that it's made in Germany. And through my experience, german measuring devices or electronics are always one of the best in the world.

The overall look of this dry cabinet. Compact size but a huge storage space within.

 Quality rubber sealing

The Relative Humidity Control is extremely simple and easy to use. Adjust the knob left or right to get the right balance to get a RH of 40 - 50%.

So, why Eureka EDC-51 Dry Cabinet instead of others?

“Auto Adsorption” Theory

In the heart of Eureka’s Dry Unit Module contains a formulation of “Multi-porous Molecular Sieves”. These sieves adsorbs and traps moisture in the air and materials by means of Van der Waal forces.

Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) is used to control the valve shutter in order to expel moisture from the cabinet
“TE Cooling Chip” Theory

Thermal Electric Cooling chip has to be connected to electricity to function. One side of the chip surface is cooled to condense moisture in the air into frost/water. The drying system requires a fan and transformer to dissipate heat and expel vapour out from the cabinet
  1. Outer valve of the Dry Module will shut immediately to prevent moisture from outside the cabinet getting in.
  2. Multi-porous Molecular sieves will continue to trap moisture inside the cabinet
  3. Dehumidification still continues even if unit has power turned off
  1. Without power the chip will lose ability to expel moisture
  2. The frost collected on the TE chip melts into water and thus raises the RH in the cabinet
  3. Should the outer valve of the dry unit be in open position during power off, ambient moisture will enter the cabinet via the valve
Fully automatic, Plug n play
Operated silently and
Maintenance-free
The fan and transformer could be noisy and susceptible to breakdowns after prolonged operations
A 40% RH can be reached within 3 hours. The dehumidification in Eureka Dry cabinets is controlled smoothly and gradually. The advantage of gradual dehumidification is to avoid undue stress on the stored materials from drastic change (drop) in relative humidity conditions.

RH level of 40% can be reached within 1 hour

Lovescapade - Wei Ting and Terence in Singapore Part 1

What can I say about Weiting and Terence? I sorta see them growing up from engaging us for their solemnization. I still could vividly remember she wanted to see us at Raffles City Starbucks and Terence can't come for the meeting. From there, I know she love our works a lot because she was willing to see us and discuss about her solemnization.

Cutting short, whao! I can never imagine capturing her solemnization, pre-wedding and her wedding day all in one. I felt that she has the most creative and most daring pre-wedding ever done

Well?? What's interesting? May the photos open your vision on what is a real pre-wedding. A lovescapade shoot that talks more about the couple having their utmost fun.

And I am thankful to have Amanda coming down and help despite she's very tired from her previous shoot with Dear Laura!

A princessy photo of her.. Lady Gaga wannabe.

Can't believe the orange ball of sun!!!!

Pretty amazing that her level of energy is still high and willing to climb on the tree to hang the little tent!

Beautiful isn't it, this is the end result.

We're supposed to use this balloons to float the tent but alas, the tent was really heavy for the balloons to be lifted up!

Stay tuned for part 2!!

Tokyo Lovescapade - Cheesie & Her Danna

東京の朝!

One of the greatest achievement that Multifolds, Melvin Lau has done was to shoot a Lovescapade with Cheesie.

She is such an inspiration to many ladies in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. To be honest, Cheesie is one of the most awesome lady I ever met. Not only she is elegant and pretty, she really takes care of others. She's also very warm and friendly in the entire shoot too!

To me, she is like a friend, blogger, tour guide. She knew about Tokyo more than what I know as this is my first time in Tokyo.. Thus she and her Danna brought me to many places for awesome food haunts especially sushis and ramens! (Behind the scenes photos later!)

Everything was communicated via whatsapp as we both live in different countries, I am from Singapore and Cheesie is from Malaysia but we got to keep in good contact via whatsapp. On the first day of the shoot in Tokyo, we still used whatsapp (the power of technology!!) to find our way to each other. Danna drove all the way down from his own place to my hotel at Hotel Route Inn Tokyo Asagaya which is pretty far from his own place! Stil, he was really amazing to find me at my lobby and their lovescapade begins.

First off! We drove to Hakone! It was really breathe taking for me because we finally reach a place in Japan where nature is so mystical and amazing at Hakone. I have to say that it's very spiritual too.

Some Holy water that Cheesie drank, I heard that it's for luck!

Danna and his awesome hoodie to cover his face! Heh!

Japanese girls are always really cute!

Cheesie getting some energy on the Pregnant tree. heard that this tree can make ladies pregnant and deliver smoothly.

Beautiful nature isn't it? With the tall trees above them.

This is one of my favourite shot!

Haha! Yes, you can see a sneak peak of me in action shooting Cheesie.

And it's a sushi fiesta for me! Cheesie and Danna were really awesome to treat me a great awesome lunch and it's such an honour to having lunch with both of them.

I will never enjoy singapore sushis anymore after trying this at the outlet area. Forgot what's the name of the restaurant.

And it's shopping time for Cheesie!

And then in the evening, we headed to Tokyo Tower!

Then we headed for dinner for one of the most famous Ramen !

I really admire Cheesie because during the long car journey of 2.5 hours, she could stay awake! But Danna, had to take a nap driving halfway back to Tokyo because firstly, his contact lens are starting to dry up and secondly, he's really tired despite working very late the night before. But Cheesie always have that powerful energy inside her that makes her living the best of every single day. Maybe I must try more of her vitamin tonics also, those that she featured on her blog.

Thank you Cheesie for being so hospitable, so understand and such an amazing lady for everyone.

BEHIND THE SCENES

You can't be just shooting in Tokyo without enjoying the tokyo culture right? Thus this are some amazing behind the scenes all snapped with my simple yet awesome iPhone 5.

So yes, I took the risk to the land of the rising sun. It's not an easy one but yet, I really have to thank Ley Yee, my awesome friend who arrange all this with Cheesie. I personally never met Cheesie before. She's from KL and I'm from SG, we both gotta rely on emails and whatsapp to meet each other in the huge and vibrant Tokyo can be quite a feat.

I took Airasia X and I have no regrets. Honestly speaking, i don't feel Airasia X as a budget airline. The inflight food and beverage were astonishingly reasonable and the seats were comfortable and able to recline and sleep.

And so I said, Goodbye Singapore. I'm bringing Multifolds nearer to Cheesie.

The beautiful city of Tokyo at night while I am touching down.

It's so so cold Winter!

Shinjuku!

I don't understand logically, but if I made myself crazy mode, I might understand "This Chair is freezing"

This credit card machine connects to the mobile network directly and requires battery only! How mobile!

Young and carefree days eh?

One good service that maybe Breadtalk can learn from is giving a free wet tissue after eating the pastries or bread. So that our fingers won't be dirty before and after eating.

We were so fascinated with the scanner that scan all the coloured sushi dishes within 3 seconds.. Look at Cheesie's awesome aw towards the 'scanner'. We still have to count the red, or green plates in singapore.. :X

The Tokyo Skytree, amazing invention isn't it?

Train breakdown at Narita Line, thus I have to take a detour!

A potential photographer alert! :D

Japan, Tokyo has really brought me a new dimension of perspective in shoots tho.
